I received a free anemone around December and it was doing just fine up until 2 months ago. Around that time, the anemone split into two. The two anemones were hiding in one of my rocks and I noticed they were both trying to squeeze out of holes that were too small. They finally came out and now they do not have any tentacles. I've read that they do split when the conditions are not good but I also have a pair of clownfish that in my opinion should be jailed for battery against the anemone. Is my anemone dying? If so, is there anything I can do to save it. My tank is about a year old (nitrates 0, nitrite 0.5, LED Lights + metal halide). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds (( and would need a picture to be 100% sure )) that the anemones are consuming themselves for food/energy -- hence the lack of tentacles.

What size tank?
What wattage of MH?
What is your salinity/SG?
How big are the anemones? How big are the clowns (( they could be a contributing factor to this ))?

This is now. The other one looks almost exactly the same only 3 times bigger.

The tank is 45L I think.
250 MH with 20,000k bulb
Salinity is at 1.028
The clowns are approximately 4in and 2 in

Looks like it has just folded itself in for lack of a better term. How long has it been like this?

It's been like this for a couple of weeks now. The clownfish has been acting harassing the anemone prior to the split. Now, only the smaller clown goes near it.

This anemone is not healthy for sure. It may have hidden in the back for way to long. Also when it came out and tried to extend, the clowns annoyed it into closing back up. Anemones depend on light for survival.

It will begin disintegrating. You will definately be able to tell. Do you have another photo please?

Has it become detached from where it is? If it has, pick it up and smell it. If it smells foul toss it.
