  1. Hello, I have a sea anemone. I don't know what it's called. I just want to ask somethings. Since last thursday. It is spewing white mucus. I tried touching its tentacles and I can feel a bit of warmth afterwards. Could it be sting?I wanted to ask if my anemone's spewing of white mucus is normal or is it dying? I checked some posts alreadt they said the tank or the anemone should smell bad. So far no death has occured within my tank.

I cycled my tank for 1 week by adding a nitrifying bacteria for 7 days. Then, I added black fine live sand and a live rock. I bought cured wet dead rock from my trusted pet shop and let it cycled for another week. After that i started purchasing fish and one coral slowly till now. I bought the anemone last sunday.

My salinity and specific gravity is within normal range accdg to my hydrometer. I tested ammonia and nitrites and its 0 and less than 0.3. My temperature is usually 80 to 85 F (25 to 33 c). I did some 10% water change from time to time (usually once or 2x a week).

    Please help.

welcome to Reef2reef.

Slow down you tank has not completed it's cycle. It's only a few weeks old .
Your temp is on the very warm side. Most keep thier tank between 76-79.
What's the size of your tank.

Please post salinity numbers as well.
Can you please post nitrate numbers.

Welcome to R2R as said above slow down. Research these animals you are buying and the care and skill it takes to care for them. Nothing typed here is to be mean. But you don’t even know the name of the anemone you own how can you provide it proper care if you don’t know it’s needs? Your tank is still so new see if you can return the anemone and take some time. You did the right thing by coming here. Before you buy something read here and ask questions. What size tank is it in what kind of lights do you have? A little more information will help. Your temp is to high you shouldn’t have any nitrites. And why are you doing 10 percent water changes 2 times a week ?

Welcome to R2R.

We are only giving comments which will help keep your new tank healthy as well as the critters in it. We're not judging whatsoever. We honestly want to help and have your best interest at heart.

Please try to return even if you need to donate it so it won't 'go south' as your system is too young to sustain an anemone.

I didn't take your post as a 'mean tone' at all my friend. I personally thought it was an awesome, helpful post. ;) Quite glad you spoke up so quickly.

It looks like an H. Magnifica which is widely regarded as one of the toughest to care as they usually ship badly.

I would try to return it ASAP for it’s best chance at survival unless it’s given very specialized and dedicated care

Hello,
Thanks everyone for your help.
No, I am not offended whatsoever.
My coral died. But my sea anemone looks vibrant and healthy. The reason for not knowing the specific name is because it is in Thai. I will ask for its English counterpart. The seller told me to put few drops of the supplement he sold me also to help in the feeding process.

Regarding the water change, I now have 3 filters to help my water be clean and free of unwanted substances. I make water changes from time to time if necessary.

I appreciate your sentiments and feedback. Currently I am enjoying the view of my tank. Hope to get additional information and tips from all of you.

I have a 55 gallon tank. I am now saving for a chiller and automatic food machine.

Currently I have 2 clownfish,7 blue chromis,2 yellow tail blue damsel, 1 yellow tang,1 naso tang, and 2 other fish(i have the name in Thai). Will be upgrading to a bigger tank soon.

That's a lot of fish in such a young tank. Keep a very close eye on your ammonia levels. They could spike very quickly on you. At this point I would advise only adding one or two fish per week. How long have all these fish been in there?

That Anemone is dying I’m afraid! It might not look like it to you as a very inexperienced fishkeeper but anemones shouldn’t be white. It has lost all of its colour from the time you bought it and over the next few weeks the tentacles will start to recede and get shorter. You can already see the stark difference between photos of when you got it to how it is now, looks like a completely different nem.

I’m sorry to say that it has zero percent chance of surviving long term in your current tank.

Good observation. OP.. what kind of lighting are you using on your tank?
