Ugh that is a long time. Well patients is key! :D I was just thinking a bubble tip. Is that what they are called? Sorry new to anemones.

i have had anemones in my tank after a month and if you keep your water quality in decent shape, you should be fine. never understood the 4-6 month rule. you just (again, in my opinion) don't want your tank cycling with your newly purchased anemone in there.

If you can't wait (even though waiting is the best), try to find a clone bubble tip. Usually the clones are better suited and seem to be able to adjust quicker. Just my .02

yeah then id wait another month or 2 ! and go with black occelaris instead of perculas.

I agree with the black percs. But I disagree about having to wait. Your tank has cycled...so it should be ok. Just make sure your powerheads are covered up in case your nem wants to walk..

the difference beetween "should be okay" and will be okay could be your whole system crashing just saying hahaha. yes when you first introduce you anemone turn off power heads and put the nem on a hole where you would like it to be then put a green fish net over it to keep it from floating away and after about 30 minutes steadily up your flow and the nem should attach i have 3 bta's and they all attached and havent moved(theve been in the tank for 3month0.

Search around for all of the different clown variants, there are some really beautiful clownfish that have been bred in captivity. I am particular to onyx percs but that is just my personal preference. Good luck to you, and glad to hear you are going to wait a bit until adding a BTA.

Cycled doesn't mean stable. Anemones need stability, thus the recommendations to wait. They can survive, but they don't usually thrive unless the tank is more mature.

+1

We made the mistake last year of putting an RBTA in our tank after we *thought* it was done cycling. It'd only been three months. The nem didn't make it a week. And it nuked the entire tank along with it :(

Mature tank is KEY. You are making a very wise decision in choosing to wait. Just MHO.

:)

did you start the system from fresh dry rock and sand or did you use live rock from another system??? i have set up a new tank with water and rock from a existing and moved sticks and nems in 2 days lol..... just depends how you cycled it.....

+1 I had sebae anemone in my tank after a month and still alive up to now.

It also depends on lighting. Most Bubble tip anemones or most anemones need High light ie. LED's, HOT5 or Metal Halide (hesitant on VHO) either evenly dispersed or concentrated with a supplemental feedings of phytoplankton. With all of the anemones I have, this is what works for me.

From what I've read, most anemones can live for a very long time. It's one thing to cut short the life of a small fish or shrimp from time to time by accident, but to take more than 90 percent of something's temporal existence just because it'll look pretty for a few years seems kindof harsh, no? If someone (like myself) is new to salt water and it's various challenges, they might find it wise to spend a good chunk of time actually experiencing the hobby before attempting to keep any anemone. The oldest reef tank I've found in any forum was 40. A bubble tip anemone could potentially live much longer than that.
