Well my GBTA passed today. My clowns are super sad. My female keeps playing in the Frog Spawn. I cycled the tank for just over 2 months, got my clowns on July 31st, so my tank is under 3 months. How long should I wait before I get a new Anemone and what kind should I get? Tx

I killed 2 rbta. Don't feel bad. On my last ditch effort the green bta. Have 2 clowns in it.

I too jumped too soon into the anem/clown hype. Took me a year before I got the GBTA, a sump rebuild and tank move. Waiting should be awhile. But more importantly, wait until the tests read the same consistently. Some on here have said wait till coraline algea grows spontaneously.

Nem success has less to do with time and more with stability of your tank. If you can't get stability in your tank it won't matter if your tank is 3 months or 3 years old. Also a decent light with good PAR is also needed. Get a good light (if you don't have one already) and monitor your parameters (sal., temp, alk, pH,etc.) and as soon as they stabilize over an extended period you should be good to go!

What is an appropriate light PAR for Nen's? My parameters have been running much the same for a few weeks, my Nitate running higher at about 40.

@Burray somewhere around 100-250 would be good enough for most BTA nems. Your nitrates seem high IMO, I run mine around 10 but my tank is heavy with softies. If you can post your parameters, list your equipment (lights, skimmer, power heads, etc.) , and maybe post a full tank shot maybe we can get a better idea what's going on.

Salt 0.125
PH 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 40 ppm
Cal. 400
Alk. 11.8
Mag. 1440

Skimmer Fluval PS1
1 powerhead
2 Marine 3.0 LED light strips
I run the filter that comes with the tank setup and a
Fluval 207 Filter.

I purchased Prime at the local store when I purchased the incubation box. Uses it again last night. I was told it would lower the Nitrates. I have some of the DeNitrate I used a while ago left that I can also use.

I advised to lowered my red and green to 25, raise blue and purple to 100 each and raised the white to 50 which I did on last Saturday.

Hmmm. The tank looks good, you even have some macro algae growing in there too so I dont think lighting is an issue. Your other corals are looking good as well. The nem in the video looks like it has an infection rather than your tank not having the right parameters. You may want to consider looking into a Cipro treatment regiment for the nem. Perhaps @Nemguy123 may have some other thoughts...

Wait a couple of months until you figure out how to keep nitrates lower than 5 ppm maxed would be 10pm. Have some stable parameters through water changes or increase your clean up crew.

I lost her yesterday but I definitely appreciate the information. She has looked like that since I bought her. I will look into the Cipro Incase I ever need it (hopefully not). Thank you!

I have 3 Scarlett crabs, 6 blue legged and about 10 Astraea snails. I will continue weekly water changes. Please tell me which clean up crews work better to help stabilize Nitrates and how many I should get. I appreciate the information, tx.

Add a brittle star or a serpent star they’ll eat up every type of detritus and release their own in a liquid state which will be easily filtered by your filteration. If you’re having algae issues add trochus snails 2-3 big ones wil do. They’re bulldozer and eat up the algae in seconds. Would recommend reducing astrea snails as much as possible cause they might be starved by the hermits and trochus.

Thanks for the info!

I've been having the same issue the last week. i had 4 BTAs that were doing fine then i had a ph spike and low alk in which im recovering from. params are more stable now but BTAs went under the rock and not opening up very much. I lost 1 and now only have 3
Nems seem to be hit or miss

I hope you don't loose any others and everything stabilizes.

I would lower nitrate and get a phosphate test. Mine thrive between 100-200 par, feedings (daily reef energy and whatever they catch plus from my clowns feeding them), moderate flow, nitrate 5-15ppm, phosphate 0.05ppm, pH between 7.8-8.0 ish depending on time of day and with windows closed. Mostly blue ish light with a little bit of white (mixed with green and red). I doe all for reef, potassium, and iron. I have about 50 bubble tip anemones so I think something is right about this lol

Which reef energy do you use?
