Anemones hurting each other?

I would say the two possible suspects was elegance and reactors. Those are the only two things I can think of.......

They are both easy to check.

Elegance will probably be the fastest to see a result in the nem. That is if the clowns move back and forth constantly between the nem and the elegance. If they don’t move back and forth constantly, I highly doubt it could be an issue. Especially as you had a mass die off of the other nems. But it is something to check.

If they do and the elegance is actually annoying the nem via clown contact, you can move the elegance to another tank if you have one. Or you can build an egg crate cover for the elegance to keep the clowns out of it. You should see a response from the nem in a day or so if this is the problem, provided the nem has not suffered too much.

The reactors would take longer to see a difference, especially if they stripped the water to fast.

Just a note: Reef roids is high in phosphate. I dose it as well, but a little goes a long way. Nems also do not need to be fed. They will end up with residual and sometimes the clowns will feed them.

Just remember, either way you need to take things slow. Bubbles are tough nems and can come back from a lot.

Personally, I would try the egg crate over the elegance first, and move it to the sand bed, so it is easier to cover up. A little less light will not hurt it for a short time. Like I said, you should see a reaction in the nem quickly if this is the issue.

It does worry me that nitrates are 0 though. Mine hate it when nutrients bottom out. (I have to dose
No3 and po4).

Ok, with that said I’ll move the elegance to the other tank. However both tanks share the same water through sump. Do you see that as a issue or no? If not then I’ll try that first.

I do not see an issue with it. I don’t think it is chemical warfare via the water and it might not even be from the clowns hopping back and forth. This is just an easy check to see.

A lot of things changed at once in the tank, so just trying to start simple and see. The nems mouth does not appear to be gapping, which is good. So as long as tentacles are not falling off and it stays expanded, there is time to test a few things.

I had to move an holy grail torch for this reason, so to me, it is worth a try.

If this makes no difference, it may need to be looked at about the reactors. I do not use GFO but do use carbon and have never had issues with carbon unless it is allowed tumble and the only issues is hlle in tangs due to that.

Also may be these 2 below have experience with elegance and gfo use causing issues with BTAs.

@James M
@OrionN

OP has lost some BTAs and a couple of new things all done at same time. Got any thoughts on an elegance being a burden to BTA nems with clowns hopping back and forth.

and with gfo/carbon being started at same time.

Not familiar with gfo and interaction with nems. Am familiar with lps sometimes annoying nems and vice versa if clowns hop back and forth between them and nems.

Sorry if I missed it in the thread but how
long have your nitrates been at 0 ?
I don’t think the elegance is the one making the nems ill

I’ve got an elegance actually touching my RBTA and a black widow. None of them are showing any stress. Your nutrient levels concern me, raise them and see what happens. I feed very heavy 1-2x every day and the nems respond very well. I would try that

1. I have a dual reactor, flows through carbon then through GFO. The carbon is packed and does not tumble. The gfo fills less than 25% and the flow is so light, you barely see the gfo flutter. I’m using the bulk reef supply mini dual reactor.

2. My nitrates has been at 0 for along time. Since before reactor. I’ll try and take a pic of what I got goingon tonight. Maybe you guys can see so
Thing I’m not and maybe we can go from there for a possible change.

I really appreciate you guys for taking the time for the help. Means a lot!

Do you have a dwarf angelfish that is nipping at them? In the last full tank shot, on the far left bottom corner.

you said this happened after adding another anemone. Did you add a wild anemone and then see the other RBTA start to decline? That could be the cause. Tank raise nems don’t have the ability to protect against a lot of wild strains of bacteria. Not a blanket statement, but what has been observed by many.
