Yes, they need lots of room around them, and may get up and move.

Yes, mine split in four and took over my whole tank. Killed several corals.

They can just roam around if they decide they don't like the spot they are in, and will just crawl right over corals and kill them. If you got one, I would do it before corals so it can roam and find the spot it likes without corals potentially being in the way. And then when you add corals to give plenty of room.
