Is an anemone a soft coral or something else, when asking for it what exactly am I looking for?

Without sounding completely useless, I mean the anemone's you see clownfish playing in.

You mention when asking for it do you mean you are interested in a certain type? There are a few different kinds with bubble tips (BTA's) being the most common that I have seen in peoples tanks. You have a picture of a certain type you want and we can identify it for you?

Really keen to know what to look for when trying to find them... are they are a type of soft coral or separate

If they are a type of soft corals, what are their names

Like gone bad said, they are invertebrates. Like snails, crabs, etc. You likely won't find them under corals.

From there, there are a bunch of different kinds like bubble tip, long tentacle, and carpet anemones. Each of those types (and there are more) will come in a variety of color patterns.

I'm in New Zealand and can't find any. Any ideas on what to search for?

Not sure where you're looking mate, on an online seller? The online retailer I bought from has a bunch. I wouldn't know anything about shipping to NZ, but there has to be someone out there. There are buy/sell threads on here too where you might want to look.
