I woke up this morning and my anemone was gone. There was a small discoloration in the sand where he was so I quickly went to get it out but nothing was there. Nothing burst in to the flow it was just discolored sb.

Is it possible it died overnight and the cuc cleaned it that fast? It seemed fine the day before.

I tested some levels and found this.

nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 15
phosphate .25 ish
ph 8.3
salinity 1.024

Wouldn't a dead anemone create some sort of chaos in the tank? I am not sure what kind it was but fairly large but it was dull in color, grayish green with a slight greenish tip.

Thanks

Keep an eye out, at times our will vanish into the rocks only to reappear when the lights come on during the day.

Afaik you would notice something. I suspect it hiding somewhere. If an anemone dies it usually detaches first, then it gets sucked in by overflows or circulation pumps. Those often smash them and seal the deal. Often the water gets really cloudy after thet get cut up by a pump. So u could look in overflows or somewhere where it couldve been sucked in. I still think it might have moved to a dark spot and hides in a rock crevice. If its a new anemone thats pretty common. So nothing to worry too much about.

I'll be danged if it didn't start popping back up in the same spot. Looks a bit shriveled atm but its there and slowly opening with the ramp up of lights.

Almost looks smaller? Maybe it split?

You will be amazed how they can retract and expand. They are truley a cool critter, have fun with it. Give it time...

btw, i have had a fish only tank before so not a lot of live rock or major lighting. Is it common for fish to hang out under rock bridges or ledges? Are they trying to avoid the light? Too strong for them? I use AI vegas x2

Most aquarium fish are reefdwellers. Which means the live in and out of the reef. Therefore its common for most species to hide. Pretty certain you cant set lights too high for fish. Also fish might need to establish. They might hide less when they get used to your tank.

Im sorry, I'm not familar with those particular lights but there are some great people on here that can answer that question. At night fish like a safe place to sleep just like you do. Our fish have their favorite places to retreat to at night. Some of our fish hang out in the structure during the day as well. Just keep an eye on them and watch for parisites, hiding from the light can sometimes be a bad thing.

I wish my android could take a pic without the blue, much easier seeing what things really look like.

That guide helped a bit, still very blue but much better. This is him now after lights ramped up.

Based on description and being in sand I'd assume it's an LTA, which can and will bury under sand on occasion, but hard to say or tell much of anything by pic.

LTA will have a red foot and spotted veracue/translucent dots
