What do you reckon this is. It has been slowly growing for a while and it retracts. Also occasionally puts out mucus strands

Thanks, its a definate maybe and would be cool if it is. It doesnt pulse at all and has been really slow growing. The retracting thing I mentioned is really slow over a few hours.

I had Pulsating Xenia, or regular Xenia... that never pulsated.. kind of drove me nutty. And be careful.. once it grows, it is like a weed.. it will get out of control fast (once it loves your water parameters).
I like the stuff, but had it on an island separated from my other rock work.. once it started growing across the sand, I was able to trim it back and give it away to another person who wanted it.
