Hello Reefers,

I’m looking to purchase an anemone that will really “pop” in my new nano tank. I have two baby clowns in there now and that’s about it.

I’m looking forward to your suggestions!

Thanks in advance,

JC

What size is the tank and what is the lighting? There are really no anemones that are natural hosts for your clowns for the size your tank appears. Some have had luck with a Bubble Tip Anemone, but there are no guarantees it would ever host your clowns.

The tank is a 13.5 evo fluval. That’s a bummer on the six month thing. Would you say anemones are harder than say soft corals?

The light is a blue and white led from Amazon. In reading the reviews I saw people used it for various corals with the exception of sps.

I personally used that light and it is really good!!Soft coral are the easiest coral around but some are highly invasive.

Anemones are much harder to keep than soft corals. They can move around, sting strongly and are generally weird creatures.

Rock flower would probably fit best, but those are not considered host anemone's.

I agree frogspawn is probably a better alternative for that size tank

Rock flowers for a nano.

As far a rock flowers are concerned the clownfish wouldn’t be able to swim in the tentacles etc., correct? I went to the LFS today. The rock anemones I saw seemed way to small for that classic clown anemone interaction I’d like to duplicate.

Congrats on the tank, your scape kind of reminds me of mine :D

I was thinking of adding rock flowers soon

That’s a dope tank. It looks like your corals’ colors are really popping. I just ordered a doser. I hope with it I will be able to really kick my coral growth into high gear. I’ve noticed a bug difference already from when I started dosing/measuring trace elements.

P.S. I was thinking of cool things to have corals encrust on. I like the shell idea in your tank. Did you do that on purpose?

No Rock flowers will not host your clownfish. Most likely, neither will an anemone.

Thanks, i was using an orange filter as my phone freaks out at the slightest hint of blue light. I havent dosed anything yet but i may need to start on alk and cal soon. I have been feeding my lps comsistently though and have been seeing good growth, nothing fancy, just what i feed the fish.

The shell idea came from seeing rock covered with zoa on youtube vids, but as i have a nano, i dont have the luxury of dedicating an entire rock to just zoas so i added the shell. Make sure you clean the shell THOROUGHLY though, i found an entire wasp inside my shell, it came out in pieces, guess it crawled in and died. Im planning to add 1 more color to it, something other than green.
