Hi, everyone! This is my first saltwater experience. I’ve had a few basic freshwater experiences over time but nothing has hooked me like this! Loving the hobby - and truly appreciating the many resources available for reefers of all experience levels.
Here’s my story:
Hubby surprised me with an Innovative Marine Nuvo 14 Peninsula, live sand, and Life Rock in mid September. We visited the LFS that he purchased it from to pickup some saltwater. We left with saltwater, RODI, some live rock, and some of the LFS’s filter media. LFS told me to come back 30 days later with a water sample. And we’re off.
(Fish are printed cutouts because my husband was done listening to me tell him that there weren’t any fish yet.)
I’m an impatient person. I had to buy a test kit. I tested daily for the next two weeks. When I needed to replenish my RODI supply I brought a water sample with me - even though it hadn’t been 30 days I was sure I had cycled. Unfortunately the LFS was super busy and he didn’t have time to test. Luck for me, I had been tracking my results in Aquarimate. He took a look at my charts and asked me which fish I would like. So...
On October 1, 2019 I added two black ocellaris clowns, Edison and Tesla.
A few weeks later I added a CUC consisting of a few astrea and trochus snails, 3 scarlet hermits, 2 yellow hermits, 3 cerith snails, 4 nassarius snails, 1 fighting conch, and a brittle star.
In mid November I added a red tuxedo urchin and on December 1 I added a paired tiger pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby.
And that’s where we sit for now. I’ll be getting an AI Prime 16HD for the holidays and can’t wait to add it. Once I have that up and running I’ll be adding my first coral. I’m thinking purple xenia, a frogspawn or toadstool, and some zoas. Would love your input on what would be a few good complimentary corals for a newbie.
