hi guys,
first post here in R2R, bit excited must admit:)

i'v recently came across few sps tanks with imperator angelfish, queen angel, blue face and few others (not all of them in all of the tanks i saw, more like a couple of types in each tank on avrage) and was wondering whats your experience with angelfish in sps dominant tanks?

i know they can be really harsh on soft tissues corals and lps and graze on them to death, but what about stony corals like brain corals and acropora?

thanks you all :)

Depends on species ..a brain coral isn't a sps though . Usually things with a soft tissue like you said and some yummy tentacles get picked on first . Brains , acans, candy cane, favia, zoos. Its honestly hit or miss , some people will tell you their Angel's are model citizens , others will tell you they definatley nip. There are some that are better than others with sps (majestic, regal )but still no guarantee .

Welcome to R2R! With SPS Imps, Blueface Adults, and Regals are fine. Brains are LPS and no way. If you want LPS try Frogspawn.

thanks guys!
ill might give it a go with a regal angelfish. the only problem now is finding a healthy and eating one. here in israel we do get quite frequently regal angelfish and usually the are in good shape, however they are pretty stubborn on beginning to feed on prepared foods.the last thing i wanna do is finding my self struggling in my reef tank and overdosing food just to get him start eating.

btw, how about juvenile imperator in sps tank?generally speaking is there any advantage to juvenile angelfish over adult ones in terms of corals friendly ?

Juveniles are sometimes easier to get eating. They are growing so bigger appetite, as their metabolism is higher.

Idea for getting used to feeding would be a standalone observation tank.

Benefits.

-overfeed, less water to change, no corals to harm by nitrate going 35ppm either.

-signs of disease or distress easier to spot.

- if need to treat, theres already no inverts
