Hey all, I was hoping to do an all Angels and Acros tank but when I got my first two angels (Flame Angel and Asfur Angel), now all my polyps wont extend. Anyone else had this issue in an SPS tank with angels?

Angels will nip at the acros, especially if they are hungry. It's life. I'm sure most everybody with angels runs into this .

Yeah, it's something you have to get used to. Poletti has quite a few in his SPS tank and it certainly doesn't affect his growth.

Very good point Ian - sorry Brad......lol. I would love to have either one of their tanks!

i had one it didnt affect growth but polyp extension never happen unless it was night time. once i got him out the polyp opened all the time. too me the coral looks better seeing the polyps out durning the day/ lights on. you cant blam them as its a normal function for them, its in their nature to pick.

angels will usually nip at the acros. I have a flame that nipped at my pink lemonade from time to time.

Have you seen this guys tank :xd: I'd listen to him. I think he knows what he is talking about 1smile1

Thanks Craig, As I have said before, PE is way over rated. If someone is trying to decide the health of their tank based of polyp extension, they're is for a bumpy ride.

Im with Mark and Brad as well. I've got a couple angels, pygmy and Large angels, and I still have some decent polyp extention and my corals grow fine and have a good color to them. Adding angels to a tank bring a new element to a reef tank that stands out much more than polyp extention does...But that is just my opinion!

Thanks guys, I really like the Angles, so far I have the Asfur and a pygmy Flame but I like the PE much more. I am removing the Flame to see if PE gets better. Anyone else have an Asfur?

Once my new tank is up I'll be hand picking a joculator ( found some one with 8) for my mixed reef. Is there anything I should look for? I have a few quick questions mark and brad is it a high chance they will pick at zoa/palys along with small one or two eye frags? Lastly I know there big grazzers like tangs but what do you find to be there best food and how many times do you feed aday?

Mine have never touched any of my paly's or zoa's. So you should be safe there. I feed them Spectrum pellets 3-4 times a day and then a combination of frozen mysis, emerald entree, angel and butterfly, and pc mysis.
Changing the combination , not all at once. They certainly aren't picky, they eat any prepared food, whereas my regal angel only likes spectrum pellets and spirulina flakes. I also soak their dinner meal in selcon.

So I am still trying to catch that darn Flame Angel, seems all the other fish will go in the trap except him. Also wondering if I should just go ahead and remove my Blue Face Angel while I can. I hate not seem PE.

How would a Queen, French, or Goldflake fare in an acropora dominant tank (300 gallon)? I don't know squat about large angels in reef tanks.

I think they would be fine. The queen and French are both very large angels though.

I have both a Regal and Multibar angel and they don't do any harm to my SPS....maybe a random pick here and there. However, they did take out my zoos, which didn't bother me, and they do pick at my brain and acan on occasion. Nonetheless, they are great fish and well worth having.
