Anirban's Aquaforest journey

Its time for Monday update.....its week 3 after the water change and things are steady.

Week 2 :
  • Salinity-1.025
  • Temp: maintained at 78 degree
  • pH: runs between 8.1-8.3
  • Alkalinity: dKH 7.67 (Hanna)
  • Calcium: 450 (salifert)
  • Magnesium: 1350 (salifert)
  • Nitrate: 5 ppm (red sea)
  • Phosphate: 0 (hanna)
  • Potassium: 340 ppm (salifert) (Its still low and I am running out of ideas  )
  • Iodine is in range.

Week 3:
  • Salinity-1.025
  • Temp: maintained at 76 degree
  • pH: runs between 8.1-8.3
  • Alkalinity: dKH 7.67 (Hanna)
  • Calcium: 450 (salifert)
  • Magnesium: 1365 (salifert)
  • Nitrate: 5 ppm (red sea)
  • Phosphate: 0 (hanna)
  • Potassium: 370 ppm (salifert) (Its still low but increased since last week )
  • Iodine is in range.

Now time for some pictures....

Time for weekly update guys....

Last week:
  • Salinity-1.025
  • Temp: maintained at 76 degree
  • pH: runs between 8.1-8.3
  • Alkalinity: dKH 7.67 (Hanna)
  • Calcium: 450 (salifert)
  • Magnesium: 1365 (salifert)
  • Nitrate: 5 ppm (red sea)
  • Phosphate: 0 (hanna)
  • Potassium: 370 ppm (salifert) (Its still low but increased since last week )
  • Iodine is in range.
Week 4:
  • Salinity-1.025
  • Temp: maintained at 76 degree
  • pH: runs between 7.9-8.2
  • Alkalinity: dKH 7.67 (Hanna)
  • Calcium: 465 (salifert)
  • Magnesium: 1395 (salifert)
  • Nitrate: 5 ppm (red sea)
  • Phosphate: 0 (hanna)
  • Potassium: 430 ppm (salifert) (Finally the level is up and running steady)
  • Iodine is in range.
So, the system is running steady. I must mention one interesting point. I was reading through some T5 lighting thread and saw @Diesel suggested the Giesemann T5 Tropic T5 for great growth. I was supplementing my LEDs with one ATI puple plus and blue plus. I will not say they are not providing growth but not outstanding. I changed these bulbs with one Giesemann Aquablue azure and one Tropic T5 6500. Now its 2 week after I change the lights and I must say I have never seen acros growing so fast. The whole system is growing like someone added hormonal supplements for growth. The only issue is I need to be very careful that the balance is well maintained as a minor mistake can hurt them very badly. Also I observe that my system is slowly getting rid of all nuisance algae and actually they are dying off. I will possibly make a progress shot of that to document the whole process....:D

With good grow start testing for strontium.
It will deplete fast in a well balanced tank.
Do you have a FTS?

As far my memory goes I have a kit for strontium. I think its salifert. Is it a good one or do you recommend some other? I will definitely try to post some pictures tomorrow. I will check the strontium level with that kit and report....Do you think anything else I need to take care of? I use aquaforest balling method for replenishing all elements but I saw in case of potassium the level was consistently down for a long period before I dosed it back to recommended levels. I am keeping an eye on that to know if my balling is sufficient to maintain the levels or not.

Just keep doing what you do my friend, by having a balance for a while your corals and fish will like you more everyday.

Thanks for those kind words....I just tested the strontium with my salifert kit. It came up 22mg/L which I think is within range. I believe possibly because the balling method the level is steady. But I will keep an eye. Also, I dont do weekly water changes. I am doing monthly 10% water change. The things are really going steady and parameters are quite strong. I am hopeful about positive effects lets see what time reveals.
