Annoying things ppl say about your tank

To my aggressive FOWLR (175g) - I dont know why your tank is so small. If I was going to do this. I would at least get one 2 or 3x and have 10x the fish. I would definitely put in a shark and some nemos and dorries for the kids.

All this stuff in the bottom (the sump) looks like BS to me. You should have just invested in a bigger upper tank.

Yeah, the sump really stumps ppl sometimes lol

My dad: a coral beuty angel would be great in your tank.
Me: I only have a ten gallon saltwater
Dad: *pulls out phone* it says they are great for nano tanks.
Me: Ummm... nano tanks are up to 55 gallons. The angelfish needs about that.
Dad: Nano is 30 gallons. It’d be fine in 20 gallons less.
Me: Pulls out live aquaria... I think not. I already have a pair of clownfish in the tank.
Dad: It’d be fine!
Me: Sighs...

It's easy to tell other people what would be "good."

Many years ago, a friend’s son about 5 years old saw my coral banded shrimp and asked what it was.
I said, it’s a shrimp.
Excitedly... “Can I eat it?!”

My mom used to call my mandarin her geisha doll fish.

I also had someone ask if they could pet my peacock mantis shrimp. They did just watch a cleaner shrimp from my other tank crawl on my hand though.

Is it saltwater or freshwater?
Why dont you have an octopus? Or a shark? You should get those, that would be so cool!!!

Love that people see my tank that takes ridiculous work and money, and are inspired to comment on something awesome I dont have. Lol.

I'm going to start going to friends houses, seeing a dog or a child, and saying "You know what would be so awesome, if you had a giraffe instead."

Oh I’ve got that beat, at least the hermit crab is something you put in there on purpose... somewhere along the way I picked up some strain of bubble algae that grows almost golf ball sized but doesn’t take over the tank, just a few bubbles here and there. I’ve got thousands of dollars worth of fish and thousands of dollars worth of corals, and almost everyone who looks at the tank comments on the bubble algae. Even fellow reefers, they are so amazed and tell me I have the biggest bubble algae they’ve ever seen lol.
OK...now I want see those bubble algae...

Are those alive?
Its weird that they move...
You should add a piranha...
Can i touch your starfish?

Whenever something is visibly going wrong with the tank (cyano, algae ect.) my family, my parents specifically, offer to drive me to an lfs to get a "second opinion" which is sweet but also the people in the store wouldn't be telling me anything I don't already know. The people having sucess in the hobby don't have some kind of cheat code for it. Which they seem to think exists....
And whenever the issue isn't resolved within two days they begin questioning what I am doing despite the fact that I am doing what will benefit my tank in the long run, and the fact that I have been the one to put in the countless hours of research and they haven't.

Also the Nemo thing.

So for me it wasn’t anything anyone said but did. My little 7 year old neighbor girl came through my house, passed the tank, stopped and noticed a snail front and center on the glass, turned and started tapping very hard right on the snail. Which I’m sure no one in the tank appreciated....

I still find myself just staring into my tank for an hour or two. Just watching all the different species do their little jobs around the tank. Or when the fish come up to the glass because that's the guy who feeds them everyday and makes sure they have clean water.

And this is the reason I have my tank... peace, relaxation, and nothing else matters.

It what some people DONT say that annoys me. Folks will walk right past my reef in its full glory and barely give it a look and not even bother to say a word about it.

Civilian, upon viewing my 500g DT for the first time: "Wow, is the whole thing saltwater?"
No, just about 100 gallons or so. The rest is freshwater. That's what I would have said. Then they would have wondered how you kept it separated. Lol
