This is a bit annoying. I've had a rock with two large aptasia on it for over 8 months without them ever multiplying. This included two tank moves. Two weeks ago I finally decided to take care of the problem and bought some aptasia x. Today I walk by the tank and see 4 new ones where the two old ones were. ;Facepalm

What I have found with aptasia is that if you have a large one somewhere, you have smaller ones, too. They just will not rise up very far, as the larger one is dominant in the area. As soon as you kill off the "dominant" aptasia in that immediate area, the smaller ones will begin to rise up more to collect more food, as they are now the dominant ones.

I have had quite a bit of luck using Aptasia X, but found I could never get them totally eradicated with it. I actually gave up on a 165 gallon tank I had with a HUGE aptasia infestation, and pulled all the rock out, acid washed and bleached it, and started all over again. In a 29 gallon tank I had luck with Berghia Nudibranch, but that gets pricey fast if you have a larger area.

Be careful. The setup I bought came with 5 or 6 peppermints and when I started adding coral they tore in to my lps at night.

This is why I always say try to remove the rock if possible before removing aptaisia. IME injecting them caused an outbreak. Sorry OP, I know it's frustrating.
