So, I’m getting close to completing the cycle on my DT. Ammonia is zero, nitrites are down to < 0.2 ppm and nitrates steady at 7 ppm. Nitrates had peaked at about 9 ppm but started dropping back to 7 ppm three days ago. Tank is bare bottom with starting dry rock.
About a week ago, I started noticing what I think was white hair like stringy algae. Looks like tiny threads of spider web blowing in the current. I assumed it was green algae that stayed whitish because I haven’t turned on any lights yet. well, this morning, just about all of it is gone. I do have a filter sock in, but now there is almost none of the algae on the rocks. Curious as to why it went away. I assume it has something to do with the cycle, but unsure what it would be. Is is they are eating up the nitrates, and now loosing their food source?
