Kind of a mixed post/question. April 2012 a group of guys from Chicago including myself contacted Rich Negret about getting a piece or the Rainbow Crush and the BPC FT for a grow out. Everything came in and rich gave us a great deal. Fast forward 1.5+ years later and the BPC FT looks like this:

It hasn't developed any blue and there looks to be green forming on that one edge. Now both myself and the person who directly placed the order have contacted Rich have since then talked to him about this piece. I brought up that it's not suppose to have green and he says they sometimes do.

First question:
Can you say without a doubt that that piece isn't the BPC?

Second question:
If the answer to the first question is yes, how do go about fixing the situation? Rich definitely didn't jump up and say here is the real bpc and I'll mail it to you tomorrow. He did say he had a few pieces of the BPC for sale which I thought was an odd response.

I don't have or know much about the bpc ft but on a small chalice frag it is very possible that it hasn't developed the other colors yet and will as it gets bigger.

I also think after dealing with rnegret several times and meeting him in FL this year that it is not odd he would offer a frag to make a customer happy he has always been great to deal with.

I hear you. I do like chalices but their slow growth drives me nuts so I choose SPS mostly believe it or not.

That being said, Rich is a very reputable seller. He lives not to far from me and I would completely trust him if he says thats what he sent you. Ive been to his house and he has awesome corals.

Lol. He said he had a frag for sale not that he would give us a frag.

Rofl clearly I took I'll mail you one tomorrow as in no charge

Not sure why he would originally mail you guys a fake bpc just doesn't make any sense?

Haha. My stupid phone. It takes didn't and changes it to did all the time. He didn't offer to send it the next day

IMO and experience this piece looks like it could have been a Bpc ft at one point but seems to have been under LEDs and the outcome is your piece pictured above. When breakinnewz broke down a few months back he had a Bpc ft that looked exactly like that with 3 or 4 eyes I believe asking 450 because it had morphed I saw it in person hence the reason why I say it looks familiar. Have you tried puttin this chalice under t5's. I heard the person that bought breakinnewz ft put it under t5's and it started to morph back before it receded and died

Rich obviously keeps his stuff under LEDs. We've had this piece under t5s for atleast a year

ahh I see that sucks to hear if it hasn't morphed back than it might not ever come back to Bpc form just call it cb flamethrower he has his own versions for everything else anyway :squigglemouth:

Rich do you have a pic of the original frag , would like to see that .....ive had 3 bpc i did get one the was unda led that when put in my system turned completley gold and im running just blue + bulbs

It may or may not be. Pigment morph happens all the time. Who knows the mother colony of the BPC might had more colors on it than we know. Who knows when it was retrieved off the reef they didn't get ALL of what was there. T be exact you have to follow the lineage and take their word.

Still a nice piece either way Rich.

I would think it would have the blue streaks coming in by now if it was the BPC, but there are some colonies like Dnov99's pics that the blue isn't very pronounced. His has some of the green hints in the edges as well.

Ian's/Coralfarm123 old (but beautiful) colony pic looks very similar to yours in it's recent growth areas.

Can't think of what else rnegret sells that it would get mixed up with besides the Flaming B. And it doesn't look like that piece at this stage either...

And this is why IME its sooo important to start with a frag that you are happy with now. Not the other colors will come in later type BS. I have seen green on the rim of other FT. People question it's legitimacy. I think yes it is possible.

I think it could still be the FT...otherwise wouldn't the green on the rim be blue on the body? Rather than green throughout?

I am not an expert on the BPC but i do own a few chalices.... If it is that slow of a grower the green pigmentation may be start of the blue coming through... I would give it more time and see if that green turns blue
