Okay, you scraped the paint off the tank ten days ago. What's happening now?
Been busy sewing and getting the yard in shape. But here's an update.
My silicone arrived but I forgot to order the overflow. I need to do that tonight.
Someone gave me some live rock (along with 4 fish) and I need to decide whether to clean it with a brush and let it dry or just use what I have. It was covered with green film algae and the tank was pretty green as well. I am worried about it being phosphate laden.
I started removing the old silicone tonight. I am not removing the bead that is in between the glass panels, just the bead inside the tank. The silicone was in pretty decent shape on three of the four corners. Those beads came off very easily. The fourth corner was much more difficult which worries me. I hope that the tank was not previously resealed because there was a problem, but surely no one would have just resealed three corners.
I also finally remembered to measure the drilled holes tonight. Looks like a 1 1/4" bulkhead will fit much better than the 1" that were in it when I bought it.
Which brings me to: How long do I need to leak test it after resealing it and allowing for cure time? Two weeks, one month, forever....
I thought about just calling Michael Mason and asking him what he would charge to reseal it but I would like to try it myself. Being cheap is one reason but I also know that I run a pretty good bead of silicone without any air pockets and the attention to detail that I would have would certainly not hurt.
