I'm setting up a 96x24x24 tank with a total system volume of about 330 gallons on line at the moment. The tank is nitrogen cycled and presently toward the end of an algae cycle. I am currently manually dosing 3 oz./day BRS alkalinity to maintain an alkalinity of 8.5 dKH. Calcium and magnesium are stable at 500 ppm and 1350 ppm respectively as there is no demand in the tank. The only occupants are snails. When should I plan on bringing the calcium reactor on line? Should I wait for an equal demand of calcium and alkalinity?

I would use it based on the need for alkalinity. Calcium will follow along just fine.

When to do it depends on how long you want to continue the two part, but probably not until you have growing hard corals or coralline algae. :)
