It’s insane. First time having them this month. They clog daily and my filter chamber goes haywire

I invert them, throw them in the washer on quick cycle and extra rinse (low soil, hot water, low tumble) with baking soda and vinegar. And then another round on same quick cycle with extra rinse with just water

I use to just clean and rinse them by hand in tap but i want them to be semi white and not brown anymore. Im running my new un used one now.

Try dropping a small piece of floss in the sock when replacing. I’m able to get 4 additional days out of the sock. After 4 days, take floss out and use sock for 4 more days. Doubles timespan of the sock.

Hi 1guydude, I use 4x8 filter socks with the plastic ring. I wash with a little bleach on a regular cycle cold, then turn them inside out and repeat the same cycle with a little bleach. I then do a rinse cycle twice turning them inside out with each rinse cycle. Then I soak them in Seachem prime for a several hours. Might be a little overkill but, I have been doing this for years and have not had any issues. May not be what the next person does. Everybody has their own way in cleaning their filter socks, but this has been working for me. Maybe others will chime in.

I am cautious about the bleach but it seems multiple ppl do 2 rinses or more and turn insidr out...ty all. Keep it coming.

why no use a cup with hole/slits and floss inside?

Trying to minimize the use of floss. Just fills up landfills (doesn’t breakdown). Only use small amount and doubles time of filter sock.

I pre rinse when I remove them in the slop sink quick, then they stay in a bucket, I then toss them in normal , warm water and bleach.. air dry and use, this is for years now

When I used filter socks, they just went into the washing machine with a load of fish towels.
A little soap and a little bleach, extra rinse.

I guess depending on the size of your tank, for my nano I would not dare do that...apart from the fact I don’t use filter socks so it wouldn’t take me be very courageous to not do it ;)
