So I was re-reading the coral lab pdf's on ecotech website and interestingly enough they state in small print that their sump is a non lighted cryptic zone and that they advocate sponges are excellent for water filtration. Now everyone try's to replicate the ab+ spectrum for leds because of these reports but most do not try and include cryptic filtration?

Now I'm still a noob with a nuvo 40 aio but have amazing growth in a well mixed reef tank withing the last year and change I've been set up....and I have a dedicated section in one of my back chambers for cryptic filtration. I have pink sponge growth everywhere on the underside of my rocks/back chambers ...everywhere. I also have alot of white sponge growth...pinapples...some plating.
I dose zeovit sponge power everyday as well as I'm sure this helps a ton.

Has anyone ever read this on the pdf or just skimmed through....

I had not read through that part of the article before, but do not think it is completely necessary in combination with the lighting schedule to see similar results. This is simply a disclosure of exactly how they run their system. There are so many options to successfully export nutrients either physically or through natural filtration such as this. I find no fault in trying to emulate it or choosing another solution.
