Another Dino or Cyan ID Please

Did a little more digging. It looks like the OP is dealing with Ostreopsis ovata, which is Toxic.

Great, just my luck.. could i be dealing with any worse type of algae, or is this the champion of killer algae!;Vomit

Dont panic get your UV set up ..hang it direct in your tank at night ...blow of your rocks with a turkey baistor after lights out ...you will see an improvement in days believe me ....dont forget too dose phytoplankton and copepods .... I had three sorts of dinos in my tank...

What do the copepods do to help?
They are part of the ecological food chain....
At the very bottom is phytoplankton..then things like copepods ( not necessarily directly next in line)...you want too creat a health microbiology in your tank ....copepods wont eat dinos ...but help too compete against them ....just like dosing liquid silicates too induce a diatom bloom ...but that's for dinos that dont rise into the water column at night like yours do ....so UV wont affect them

Will cheato compete against dinos? I just put my cheato back in my ref to compete.. I had a good population of copepods. hence had.. not sure if they survived the H202 dose I did last night.. hoping that helps till I get the Jebco UV.

How big is your tank and what wattage is the UV...

My tank is Red Sea 425..115 Gal and I ordered 55watt Jebao UV Clarifier Sterilizer

I'm not a big fan of adding copus amounts of h202 too a tank...it kills good bacteria as well as bad ...indiscriminately...it worked the first time for me ....but not the second time I got dinos ...and dinox didnt work either ...I nearly quit twice because of dinos ...took me 5 -6 months ...trying different things ...till @dwest helped me and gave me the advice I'm now sharing with you ...

I appreciate the help.. I'm just in panic mode.. don't want to kill anymore livestock. so the h202 was a patch to keep dinos at bay till I get the UV going. I did add some microbactor7 this morning..... will the Jebao UV Clarifier Sterilizer 55w work?

Thsts good enough for a tank upto 160gal ...so how big is yours ...plus what is also important with UV is the speed the water passes through ...you want it too go as slow as possible so that the water is in contact with the light longer..so an adjustable pump is better ..but the slower the better

115 Gal tank..
55w is more than enough ....but they are big ...
Mine was 36w ..I placed it like this on my tank

I have been dealing with dinos as well. I added a UV directly in DT and am blowing off rocks and sand at dusk. Slowly but surely each night there are less dinos appearing. I am going to do this for 30-45 nights.

You need a large amount of dinos to fear the toxin. From your image you are fine. I had a crazy dino outbreak when I first began reefing, I added Dino X and within minutes everything in the tank was dead. I would be very hesitant to use DinoX for this reason. Take it slow :)

Exactly this ^^^. Additionally, I'm a huge fan of bubble scrubbing at some point during the day.

Got the UV and set her up... Should I run it 24/7 for a few days then just nights? I will baste the rocks before I go to bed..

Dinos only come up into the water column when lights go out ..so only run nights ..

This is working for me! Had a dinos outbreak and ive been doing this since last friday. Everyday i see progress! After 5 days im almost clear from the #%$@&€ dinos

Yep, this morning I had tons of dino sludge in my filter socks from one night. I did get up at 3am and baste the rock and back of the tank again, just incase they wanted to be stubborn. I will see the progress if any when I get home tonight.. fingers crossed!
Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I will keep this updated to help any other poor souls.
As the Dino thread is 360+ pages, of way too many fix opinions. My brain got tied and pooped out on me after the 100+pages I read! ;Bookworm
