I am running a wet dry with rock instead of bioballs. Should the rock all be submersed or is it ok to run a little exposed?? I have read mixed opinions on this so I thought I would ask here. the tank is a 75 with eshops 30 gallon wet dry. Running lifereef 36 skimmer mag 18 pump split between skimmer and return. Around 60lbs in dt and 50lbs in sump. Also using some rubble before return chamber.

In order for beneficial bacteria to live, it needs to be submersed or at the very least constantly wet.

It needs to stay submerged IMO. be careful that it does not allow for detritus buildup.

I don't know that it needs to be submerged. The stuff is shipped wrapped for moisture all the time. However, for good nitrate control you do want some anerobic areas which is easier to achieve when it is submerged vs. in an environment similar to how bioballs are used.

There are NO dumb questions! Unfortunately I have not enough knowledge on this subject to offer an opinion.

I would keep it under water .

Ok so I have little more in the sump than need in thinking. It is a little above water line but always stays wet. I am monitoring tank closely so if I see something go wrong I will definitely change up. I plan to clean sump and rocks regular
