I am surprised there are not more articles or tips on flow being how it is so important.
"I searched, hope I didn't miss anything"

I have a 90 gallon tank "older style 4' tank" I will post a photo of the rock-work shortly. The Rock does not touch the front, back or side glass for less dead spots. The overflow is pretty thin, may 4". It is hard to fit my hand inside & centered in the middle.

As of now I have 2 power heads in the tank moving water. They are Uniclife w-25 "amazon, I have been very happy with them, being they were cheap" Max flow is 2100 GPH per pump, they are on the random setting ramping up and down. Placement now is they are both on the back glass left side is pointing at the rock "far away" and right side pointing over rock "closer to rock"

I see a lot "almost all" nice tanks & they seem to have both pumps positioned on the side glass, one closer to the front and one closer to the rear both about middle height making a circular flow. Is that the best way to position them? I put them on the back to hide the cords but think the flow could be better. It will be a mixed reed, more sps on top with some lps in slow flow spots. I like to try and cater more for the sps, does anyone think I need more flow? Should I move the pump position? If I did the math correct the max should be 46x turnover but it is on random setting.

Thanks. Hope the information makes sense?

Photo as promised. You can see 1 pump in the right of photo, left side looks the same.

Awesome scape! It actually took some time for me to get the flow in my tank the way I want it. It might sound silly, but I took a rubber "PetSmart" anemone and paced it in different spots in the tank to visually see the flow. Also monitored where the detritus tended to accumulate then adjusted my power head placement and wave maker intensity accordingly. Seemed to work out pretty well.

Thanks. I am happy with the aquascape, it should look nice when corals grow in. Thanks for the tip with the rubber anemone, I might give it s shot. It should not be much longer until I can put soft coral in.

Do you think the flow between the 2 pumps is enough?

Thanks again.

Should be plenty for softies and most LPS. Might have to beef up the flow when your SPS starts to fill in. I have 5 power heads on 3 wave makers in my 6' 125. One on each side, 2 on the back, and one small one in a corner that just couldn't get flow any other way. I get crazy random flow and lots of turbulence.

Awesome, thank you.
I have a spare w-40 wave maker of the same brand maybe for the future. That thing rips water, I was concerned it was to strong its max is 3400 GPH.

Cant wait for the SPS, the lower flow corals can deal with it haha. Jk

That's great never thought of doing that... Like stated It does take some time to truly tune the flow in a tank, just moving a powerhead a 1/4in can change it. then you have all the modes and power settings too...

Does anybody think there are any advantages to having a 1 pump on the left near the back of the tank and 1 pump on the right side glass near the front to create a "whirlpool" style flow as apposed to 2 pumps aimed at each other having the currents crash in the middle of the tank?
