Hello, few kalk related questions.

My total tank volume including sump is 119 litres.

Alk consumption before I started dosing kalk 0.5dkh per 24 hours.

I calculated that 500ml of saturated kalk would raise my alk by 0.5dkh. (Is this correct? Seems alot)

So I divided 500ml by 24h which makes 20.8ml

Ideally I would of liked to have spread the dose out over 24h at 20.8ml/h however my doser only allows 12 additions in 24 hours so I do 41.6 every 2 hours. (Does this sound reasonable?)

Dosing directly into the sump, is precipitation going to be a problem?
Better off going into the high flow DT?

Use in in your ATO water
A few reasons I don't want to so that.

Firstly I have no clue if my evaporation rate matches my alk consumption rate.

Secondly the evaporation rate will change seasonly thus changing the amount of kalk going into the display tank.

Thirdly it make a heck of a mess of the ato reservoir and pump.

I know people play with that fire but I'd rather not.

You need to get a Kalk Stirrer. Run your top off through the stirrer. When the seasons change (evaporation rate) you can adjust the amount of Kalk added to the stirrer.

Or you could just get a dosing pump?

Kalk stirrers are really not nessesary beside piece of mind that your kalk is fully saturated.

In my opinion Kalk stirrers are just inventing a solution to problems that don’t exist. Dosing pumps from a separate container are fine. You can also restrict available Kalk to prevent overdose.

Inconsistent dosing, and can easily damage the ATO pump.

Dosing pumps are cheap, it’s better to just spend a little to save a lot.
Working fine for me the last 7 years. But I’m not a # chaser.

Do what you want guys, if its working for you great if anyone could answer the questions of the op I would appreciate it. Cheers

I don't think precipitation would be a problem. I do think that 500ml a day would eventually overflow my 55 gallon system.

Exactly, that’s why you want the participation in your ato container instead of sump. Never pull water/precept. From the bottom 3”Of the ato container.
You need to let this go salt.

"Exactly" well actually no.

The key word i used was "almost" matches my evaporation rate.

If kalk was in the ATO it would NOT be balanced with alk consumption. Dkh and Ca would climb instead of stay in line. Limewater should only be used to maintain the levels in your tank not raise them due to the high PH of the solution.
