If you have NFG, I would switch over to using that now (following a large WC/running carbon for 24 hrs). Don't combine any other antibiotics with NFG, as it already contains 2 antibiotics (nitro + sulfa) + MB.
I don't have the NFG on hand, was wondering if it was better to chase it down. Since this is an active infection, I'll stick with the furan-2/kanaplex/metro, and do the MB bath. But I'm getting my hands on some of the NFG for future use ...

Thank you again for all of your help with this!

It's debatable which is the "best" antibiotic concoction to use: NFG or The Triple Threat (Kanaplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex).

I've had more long-term success with the The Triple Threat, but phenomenal success with NFG for 6 months before I was forced to abandon experimentation. I am eager to resume testing soon.

Why were you forced to abandon experimentation?

It's a long story... Wife changed jobs so we moved, now she works remotely so we're on this road trip trying to find the "perfect place" to live...

Oh, that is much less dramatic than the scene I conjured up ...

After 8 days of meds, I can't really see a change. This morning, I gave the fish a 30 min bath in 0.5ml of MB in 0.5gal of water from the tank (that's eqiuvalent of the 1tsp / 5gal bath dosage in the link you provided). While I had it out, I took new pics. Anyone see anything that can be of help to me?

The fish has completed 10 days of meds, with no significant changes that I can determine. Still eating and acting like an otherwise healthy fish.

At this point, it seems that I have been keeping the situation from getting worse. Perhaps it just needs time. I'll run the meds for 14 dats (4 days to go), but what then?

Remove all meds and wait & see what happens. With infections, antibiotics can win battles but only a healthy immune system can win the war.

It's been a couple of days since I have removed meds. If anything, the spot has gotten a little whiter, and a little bigger. The fish is still eating and behaving in a healthy manner. It doesn't seem like the meds had any effect, aside from maybe protecting whatever this is from getting infected (which is a good thing).

Aside from standing by and just watching, is there nothing else to be tried? I won't stop feeding it's immune system (tend to do that with all of my charges). Shall I keep up regular MB or acriflavine baths?

I think I need to get a better camera, one with a macro lens, and getting an extreme closeup to see what is going on ...

Is there still any redness to it? Or is it all white now?

All white ... As far as I can tell. Fuzzy looking, too.

I am going to have to catch the little bugger, he is way too fast to get a good pic while in the tank ... will try later today.

The camera makes it look more red than it is to my eye - but perhaps the camera is more reliable? The more interesting thing is that second spot now (circled). I did not notice that at all yesterday, and when I quickly looked in on the fish this morning, I must have missed it. It's definitely something that has shown up quickly - coincidental with the stopping of meds about 2 days ago?

I do have a microscope, although I have never scraped a fish before and wouldn't know what I was looking at. I'm guessing that this may be too far gone at this point, but the fish is still eating like a champ and I am not ready to give up on her! I keep forgetting that she's still a she ...

This could actually be a rare case of saltwater fungus.

I would try dosing Melafix + Pimafix (two herbal remedies). It can't hurt anything to try.

What has me newly concerned is the new growth that showed up in last day or so, after I stopped antibiotics. But it's fuzzy looking, and isn't red - doesn't look like so much like an infection. At this point I will try anything, so I will dose melafix and pimafix tomorrow (have to go get some first!).

The kanaplex/furan-2/metro didn't make any headway against it, although maybe it held it in check. If it is mycobacterium, what would knock it back?

I fear I am running out of time now ...

well if its fungus, fluconazole possible

it looks like mycobacterium marinum or fungus?

If it was mycobacterium, I would think nitrofurazone/kanamycin would have had more impact on it. Neomycin is an alternative treatment for mycobacterium - so topically applying good ol' Neosporin might be worth a shot.

I would say Columnaris might be a consideration, is this were a FW fish.

OP - You said you had a microscope. How comfortable would you be taking a small sample of that growth?
