Ok so heres the deal. I am fixing to try the led route as opposed to my metal halides. I have a 110 gallon tank that is 30 tall. I am going to order two 36 led kits from aquastyle online with dimmers. I will order at twos seperate times because i just replaced my metal halides so this will be a long build. My questions are what light configurations should i get how many whites , blues, red??? Etc.. I mainly have lps right now with a few sps. I will be adding more sps. Also, what optics should i use? The tank is 30 tall and leds will hang at least 10 in from top of water. Will 72 even be enough? Thanks in advanve

I would pass on the Bridgelux LEDs and go with either Cree XT-E or Luxion ES. Given their light output and lower energy draw they are less expensive in the long run.

I'm more familiar with the Cree and for a tank your size I would go with a 250 Watt MH equivalent.

Two fixtures with 45 XT-E LEDs and Optics will give you 200 PAR on the sand bed which will work for clams.

For the look of a Radium Bulb, this mix works well per fixture.

24 Royal Blue (D36)
6 Blue
15 Cool White (7.5K)

Optics very in quality. If you go with the Carclo Ripple Wide you will have great penetration without the spill.

Honestly a par meter will save you money (fried corals) in the long run For Sure! All of the new fixture put out a lot more than peeps give them credit for.

I am one that switched from Cree to Bridgelux, keep in mind one of the best lights out there IMO uses Bridgelux Leds and that is Orphek
I like the 10K whites a lot better then the 6-7K whites I have tried both with a Spectrometer and the Bridgelux 10K do read 10K on the Spectrometer where as the Crees I had were labeled as 7.5K but read 6.5K.
I would go with
36 10K whites 60º optics
20 Royal Blue 60º optics
8 Blue 90º optics
6 420 UV 90º optics
2 Red no optics

I keep hearing mixed emotions on both lights. The led is new to me. Ive always run halides and t5
