Ready to upgrade lighting almost embarrassed to say that I have to 36-in Fluval Aqua Sky LEDs the tank is 72 in Long 23 in tall trying to figure out what my best option for lighting as far as spread and height and get the right lighting for beginner Coral have some Pandora paly in there and they're doing great green neon Toadstool it's it somewhat happy and a fuzzy green mushroom does seem to be happy at all and I believe it is because of the lighting parameters are with within spec I tested and tested and have them check for my couple different local stores they said spot on I have fish in the tank and they're doing marvelous about 9 months old I just think I need better lighting

Right now just pretty much softies and some fish and I would kind of like to keep LEDs there more controllable

Do you have a particular budget?

(2) 36” Reefbreeder Photon V2+ would pretty much cover everything and you’d be able to house more light demanding coral if you want to in the future. Also, they are the on the less expensive side of lights but still will add up since you would need 2

I am using Reef Breeders as well and I love them. Logan has some of the best customer service as well!
I had a photon v2 on a previous setup and loved it!!! Actually, I still have the photon lying around...may need to start another tank to put it to use.....

Looking like I'm definitely going to have to do some research on this because it's going to be expensive anyway I'm looking at it

LOL you're right that wouldn't be cheap
Yes lighting is not cheap unfortunately.

I would suggest that you research between LEDs and T5’s and make a decision between the two. From there, you’ll be able to narrow it down and it’ll make things easier for you. For either type of light, you can always buy second hand and check the marketplace here, eBay, FB Marketplace, etc. A lot of folks also run Chinese black boxes and have great success with them. They can be a bit tricky because sometimes, some are quite powerful so be careful If you decide to go down that path.

thank you for your advice a lot to think about

No problem! Just think about what you want to keep and try to imagine what you see yourself keeping in the future. The lighting requirements for those animals will help guide you as to what range of lighting you should be looking at.

It’s an investment and it’s a big purchase usually the second biggest to the tank, sometimes it costs even more than the tank! But skimping and buying the wrong lighting is only going to cause you to spend more money down the line. So it’ll end up costing you more.

Not super expensive if your willing to buck the high dollar lighting trend. Mars aqua and viparspectra have good black boxes. I think my 2 165w viparspectra were $210 shipped. They'll grow anything you want probably.
