Hi all, just saw this section and figured I’d post an introduction. I grew up in the ocean surfing, fishing, etc and have always had a love for water in general. Kept some fresh water fish and frogs over the years but nothing too serious. A few years back I went over to a friends house and he had a reef tank, and I fell in love and had to have one. So I started my journey with tons and tons of research. I read and read for a couple of years before I pulled the trigger. About a year and a half ago I bought the aquarium, stand and sump, and worked on it here and there, drilling the tank, painting the background, etc. It took about a year of on and off building, thinking, getting overwhelmed, researching, before I finally got some water in it. It’s been up for about 6 months now and I have been very careful to go very slowly, be patient, and do a lot of observing of what’s going down. It seems to be doing pretty well. Anyway, enough blabbering, I hope to get around to starting a build thread at some point, although it’s certainly nothing special and has been a great learning experience up this point. First thing I do every day when I get home is examine the tank, I love having a little slice of ocean in my home. Thanks to all the intelligent people on this forum who I have learned so much from through the years of lurking, I’m finally here to actually participate!

Nice aquascape. Welcome to R2R!

Thanks. I’ve been having a lot of second thoughts on it actually, I don’t think it looks very natural. My idea was to make as many caves and overhangs as I could but I think it ended up looking like a bunch of rocks leaning against each other, which it kind of is lol. I’m hoping it starts to look more natural with thoughtful coral placement etc, which I will need a lot of practice with.

Healthy, growing corals can save almost any aquascape too.

welcome,i really appreciate a man who has patients for as long as you have.i think 90% of people buy it and fill it.success is measured over time in this hobby.nothing good happens fast in a reef tank.

I’m a thinker, to a fault sometimes. Constantly second guessing and wanting everything just right, so it took a long time. And it’s still not right! Lol. The only reason I ended up with corals already is because I got them free from IPSF with my shipment of love sand actuator, bristeworms, spaghetti worms, pods etc. I kind of freaked out because I wasn’t expecting them and I hadn’t even planned on keeping corals until I had fish for a while! Lol oh well. I waited 6 months for fish.
