IMG_0989.JPG I am hoping this isn't another pest or two.
I've been fighting high Nitrates, is this the result?
Pic #1- black spikes coming out of sand next to shell
Pic #2- sand formed tubes next to base of rock

pic 1-I have the same little sprouts in my nem tank. Even when I clean it theyre still there. 8+ months and no issues.
pic 2-probably some sort of worm...most likely beneficial but if you dont like it, you can just pick them off and toss them in the trash.

Ok, thanks. That's what I was hoping for, but you never know. Never a dull moment!

sand worms. good stuff. they clean the sand bed. Somebody really should sell these more often.
Id like to see a cleared pic of the first ones.

yea Ive kinda always been about the bugs. The first ones are probably a bug too and the sand as been blown off.
Im my first 30(3.5 years) at feeding time 10,000 little arms would come out of the sand and clean it. (dsb)
Like a dummy I listened to a lot of folks and saved very little of the bed and just seeded. In hindsight I should have just dumped it in and covered it in the new 3+ inches an 40+ lbs I added..
The new mandy eats worms.

not any more!!
I was thinking I was doing something wrong or nuked my tank(hand soap, bleach, bayer, cooties???) cuz I couyldnt get more worms, and had had a pretty good selection going in the new tank.
I was sitting on the couch next to the tank and a big puff of dust kicked up and the mandy had pulled out a big spaghetti worm. It tossed and shredded it like an orca with a seal and devoured it:eek:
So much for the whole, mandy's eat only copepods thing.

hahahahaha love the orca analogy :D
You should set up a tank with just a DSB and grow them yourself!

I heard that!
hahaha
the only bad thing is, I have 2 dt's on qt. If I had a bigger house I do have a friend or two that have 500 gallon tanks in their trucks. So.......
I could be in big trouble. Did mention I like sharks and and know a guy who will let me have his nautilus?
