Hey everyone need a little more info on mixing meds. I've read that mixing anything with prazipro will cause a bacterial bloom but I have 2 clowns that have not eaten in 3 days. I'm 2 days into prazi treatment I noticed white stringy poop first day of qt and thought prazi would help but it doesn't not appear to be helping, one of the two is now a lot less active and is hiding he was the dominate fish on the first day always picking on the other, would feeding medicated food (metro w/ focus) still cause a bloom?

In order for a successful treatment of metro, for internal parasites/worms you will want to mix it into the food with focus as stated above. I personally have never used in the presence of prazi, but read threads all the time where people do without a bloom. If the fish are not eating, that will be your challenge. Remember prazi is also an appetite suppressant. You might have better luck with a large water change to reduce prazi and hope they eat.

Ok that's actually why I was worried about waiting the entire treatment of prazi, all the info I found no one fed everyone just wanted to dose the water. I figured that was why the bloom would happen I just found no info to support it. Thanks for the info and that's what I will try today water change and medicated food and maybe with some garlic

Take a look at using API General Cure. It's a lower dose of praziquantel yet enough to get the job done and Metro. It's a powder. Use a brine shrimp net to dispense the powder. Lower the net half way into the water. Dump into the net the GC. Massage the net to express the GC into the water. Dose wait 5-7 days. 25% water change. Dose again wait 5-7 days. Observe for 7-10 days. I packet treats 10.5 gallons.

Always good to increase O2 in tank during treatment. Point powerhead up to ripple the surface.

Yeah definitely going to try GC, but will it treat internal parasites or will medicating the food be the only way?

Usually GC will take care of the flukes and internal parasites. If you have a particularly tough bunch, you can always add the feeding of Metro + Focus + food route if the fish is eating.

About to start GC treatment, the box said to repeat dose after 48hrs, should I do that or wait the 5-7 days before adding second dose

Nope. Ignore that part of the instructions. Dose. Wait 5-7 days. Do a 25% water change. Dose again. Wait 5-7 days. Then observe for 7-10 days or so. There are praziquantel resistant flukes/worms out there. So you need to wait a bit and watch to ensure the doses did their work.

Thanks Big G for all the help, the fish are now eating btw and I did end up feeding medicated food while using prazipro if anyone was wondering
