So.. pressed go and ordered a custom 75x30x24.. this will be a completely new set up. New fish. New rock.
I have a 80g empty at the moment. The custom won’t be ready until end of the year. I’d rather start getting my fish throughout the year as I find exactly what I’m looking for.
I have a good local supplier. The question I have is, how many fish can I realistically keep in my 80g QT and keep it empty (bar a few pvc fittings) so I know that come big tank time, everything going in is happy, healthy, fat & parasite free. I’d sacrifice a few lumps of Marco if it would help keep my fish happy.

thoughts and experience more than welcome

Depends on how many water changes you're willing to do and a stock of bacteria in a bottle. Fish size and the amount of ammonia they produce will factor in also.

I’d do as many WC as was necessary, I don’t really see it as a chore pulling water out dumping water back in.
I’d always use bottled bac too.
Fish list with main tank fully stocked below, I don’t expect to get all and throw them all in initially. Possibly the larger out of the list initially. First batch in then restock.

I’ve NEVER qt’d before but with this tank I’d rather start as I mean to go on.
