Another question about ich

So, I had battled ich for a solid month. Lost plenty of fish.

But after the fish all looked clear, I decided no new fish for the time being.

Couple months go by. No signs of ich. I decide I'll add a hardier, captive bred fish. Enter Roger, the goldline rabbit fish.

Month goes by. No signs of ich on any fish.

I pull the trigger on a beautiful niger trigger. Few days in, no signs of ich.

I'm not new to the hobby. I know that one it's in the tank, you have it, unless you qt in a separate tank for a few months. Which is not a possibility for me.

So my question is, how long should I wait before adding another tang? I'm dying for a hippo. I want to find a captive bred, so it's not going to anytime soon.

I guess I'm a bit confused. Is the reason your waiting on new fish ick related?

Ive gotta say, blue tangs are ick magnets. It WILL break out in white spots when you get it. Best to just have a plan to keep it healthy and comfortable

Well I was more monitoring the situation.

I know it will get it. That's why I'm holding out for a captive bred one, so it's a hardy as possible.

Have you thought about buying fish from a source that quarantines for you?

So. You know you had ich but didnt go fallow for 72 days? That should have been your 1st step.
2nd step should have been treating the rest of the fishes with copper, etc.

So you are right you still have ich and at any point will come back.

I wouldn't add any new fish. Specially hippo tang

Can you set up a quarantine tank to treat them 1st?
Go 72 days fallow on your DT.
Then you can be kinda sure that the ich is treated off your DT.

Then after that, I would buy from a vendor that quarantine.

Another option: UV.

There are tangs that are sure to die in ick management tanks. Hippo tangs, while suspectable to ick, aren't one of them.

Clearly you not going to start up a qt tank and go fallow. That is fine. I haven't done qt in 10 years of reefing and have kept many tangs (currently have 3 including a powder blue/ick magnet). The trick is to keep your fish very healthy via the Paul b method

I went 4 weeks before any additions but my situation was velvet thanks to PBT
