Ok so my other forums flip out if ur brand new and post threads right away hopefully it's not like that here.

Dose anyone have any lill tips or tricks they have used get there Coraline algae to grow faster? For example I had a friend tell me to get a small piece and scrape the crap outa it into the tank. Basically shaving the algae off rock into the tank water

Scraping off other rocks to seed the tank has been known to work, but with proper parameters, coralline will typically grow just fine.

Just don't use the fake chemical approach.

I've seen posts where people scrape it off their glass, crush it and seed their rock. Make sure your Ca and alk levels are proper too.

Steady parameters will make it grow like a weed. Extremely intense lighting will inhibit its growth.

I have never really had coraline growing on the tops of my rocks since I'm an SPS keeper but it has always grown well in my fuge and on the underside of my rock.

With this new set up it still doesn't grow well on the tops of my rocks but grows like a weed every where else and I'm constantly scraping my glass with a razor.

Be careful what you wish for. Once you have nice corals, a purplish pink algea will probably be very unimportant to you. Healthy fish and corals is a far better goal.

If your Mag, Alk, Cal and phosphates are not in check, it won't grow. It need those things to thrive in a tank. If levels are kept out of whack, it can't grow.
But, yes, get someone who has it in their tank, get a peice of the live rock or powerhead that its on, scrape that into your tank, and if your params are right, you'll be pulling your hair out scraping it off everything in no time.

to seed, I suggest scrapings from someones glass put into a baggie and crushed fine. I put into the intake of the return pump.
