Tank is now cycling. Have green and red algae growing on the rocks and brown spots on the sand.
When I turn on the coralufe 220 skimmer I end up with a tank full of micro bubbles. Is it cause there is nothing to skim? Or just new skimmer?

New skimmers will do this. It might take awhile to brake it in

I put a dead shrimp in the tank along with an algae starter. I have not seen a spike in ammonia or nitrates. Test strips show no nitrites either. Better nitrate test on the way. Been 7 days .this will teach patience.

It will take a few days before you see results, and like you stated you have a better test kit coming. As I was told, take the top off the skimmer and adjust the aeration till it reaches were the cup and base meet. let it run like that for a day once you have the level set. You might have to tweak it during that day. after that place the cup back on and you should be good. As @Baby Ray stated it is a new skimmer and has to have break in time

Why would you add an algae starter. The dead shrimp is all that was needed

Dry rock from Billys reef connection. Good price.very clean. Large pieces. Live sand from ifs. Did seed with one live rock from ifs.
