Little back story. My 90 gallon tank has been set up for a year now. It’s SPS only and I like to kick up the flow. I originally put sand In the tank but its always being blow around. I’m worried that all the sand movement is disturbing the tanks biological groove. My ideal situation would be to remove the sandbed all at once. Remove all the rock and coral and place into a 40 breeder for a few hours. The rock is mainly glued together so it should come out In just a few pieces. Remove 90% of the water and then physically remove the sandbed. Rinse the tank with RODI water and place a sheet of black hdpe and then refill and add everything back.
the tank is connected to a 60 gallon frag tank that shares the same 20 gallon sump so those will remain stable throughout the process.
The corals I have seem to do well for a month and then fade and slow down in growth. It’s just been a roller coaster ride even when I don’t change or add anything even with rock solid stable parameters.
My nutrients are in check and aren’t really an issue but there’s something else going on biologically that’s disturbing the tank. Nitrates always are around 5 and phosphates stay 0.05 to 0.1
