Another Tang

Hello All,

Thinking about adding another tang to my tank. My tank 7ft 250 gallon. Wanted some ideas on what you all think about adding another tang. I have 5 already and here is the current stock list.

3.5" Yellow Tang
4" Saiflin Tang
3" Lieutenant Tang (really wanted a orange shoulder but decided against it)
2.5" Tomini Tang
5" Chocolate Tang (in qt, 1 week left)
5" Regal Angel
2.25" Flameback dwarf angel
2.5" yellow coris wrasse
2.5" melerenus wrasse
2.5" orange shoulder wrasse
2" black cap basslet
2.25" Black Leopard Wrasse

Future list:
1. Another tang (which one)or Bluethroat Trigger??
2. Peppermint Hogfish
3. Mystery Wrasse
4. Maybe a Clownfish (kids want one)

I’d add a copperband to that group!
Has the additional advantage of being an Aptasia Remover and is “tall” with super colouration.

Yeah, but I'm afraid the copperband will not survive those established tangs. They are some bullies

IME copperband will be fine but needs to start off in a different tank to get it fattened up and eating well. It has to be eating food from the water column not just picking at the rocks before adding to the DT with tangs. My CBB is in a 7ft tank 4 yellows, naso, purple, convict, and vlamingii along with other fish and does great. @vetteguy53081 also has a CBB with a bunch of tangs.

I have a blue throat which gets along well with all and another ideal tang - Gem (pricey) or convict If eating otherwise white tail bristletooth

I was surprised how well mine got along with my tang group.

He’s not skiddish at all and will flash any of the four!

He’s a good 5” and loves PE mysis.

Best fish I’ve owned.

I’ve got a general question. Pertains to tangs but could be applied to other species. I often read that it’s best to add multiple tangs at once because this reduces territorial friction. My question is how long does it take a juvenile tang to Become “established “ ? If you added multiple tangs sequentially over multiple weeks would you have aggressive issues? Also wouldn’t spacing out introduction of tangs allow for the tank to adjust to the increased bio load? As with everything I’ve learned in the last couple years, more than one solution to each problem. What are your thoughts on this?

it depends on the size of your tank and the size of the fish you are adding. If you have an established system already, probably best to add juvenile tangs together. Otherwise, space them out 2 weeks or so, and add in order of aggression with the most aggressive fish last.
