So, I am seeing a few show up in my tank. I know that to remthem, you have to take from the base, which is fine. But my question is if I scrape them off at the base, or crush them in the process, and they go floating around in the water column, will they then just re attach something else? Or will this kill them? I ask because I am CERTAIN I will not be able to totally manually remove them.

I love bumble bees snails! But what will they eat after the vermitids are gone?
Your other snails most likely.
I'm curious if anyone has successfully eradicated all if the vermitid snails in a tank once they begin to populate? I gave up trying :crying-face:

They are carnivores like nacarius snails lurking under the sand. They will eat left over scraps of frozen food and help prevent organic waste in the tank which typically only helps bad stuff in the tank.

Do you ever turkey baste your corals and rocks and see all this detritus blow off? The little bumble bees will work on that problem too.

Cool! Yes I turkey baste about once a week.

Yeah, I am sure one will never get them all! But I don’t like them irritating my corals. I will order some more bumble bee snails. I already have 4 or 5. Hoe many for a 90 gallon

The first year I had them popping up, they seemed to love my zoa garden and kept the adjacent zoas closed and sometimes melt. I put ten in and I haven’t seen a vermatid snail in well over a year and a half. That being said I wouldn’t say mine was to the point you would call an infestation. There at least 5-6 bumblebee snails in the tank currently and my tank is only a 32 g.

Great to know, I do not have an infestation either, and want to keep it that way. So I will be getting quite a few more bumble bee snails for sure. I just always worried about them going hungry after.

Mine are fine without the vermatid snails, when I get a cuc they die off they are there doing their job along side the nassarius snails and hermits. I think the eat the food that the fish and corals miss.

Perfect! I am sold! Today I took a small pair of bone cutters and sniped a vermitid off the skeletal part of my torch. It worked, but not something I want to do often. The torch handled it just fine though.

Now you have become a reefer!
