Another "What is this" Thread

Thanks for all the positivity guys! So far so good. Fish are looking less stressed in QT already too. Gonna let them chill for the night, then feed in morning and retest copper to make sure it is still good. Cupramine says dose now, then again in 48 hours. Then does it stay at that dose (minus adding new water) or do I dose every 48 hours for the 30 days? Obviously I will test consistently too, to make sure all is well.
Just the two doses ONLY!

It will hold the level unless something is absorbing the copper.

Top off with R/O only, copper is like salt it does not evaporate.

The only time you need to re-dose is when you perform a WC. Make sure to pre-dose and test the WC water before adding it to the tank so you don't ever allow the fish to be exposed to sub-therapeutic levels.

I would also break up that final dose into three doses throughout the day if possible instead of doing it all at once.

Awesome. That is super easy. And now... I have a QT tank for when this is all done, I will def be QTing everything else from now on.. (Including snails, right?)

Well yes, anything "wet" needs QTd including all inverts and corals. Inverts and corals do not tolerate copper though so you need to put them in a separate tank/Rubbermaid bin. To allow them to be fallow for the proper timeframe before adding to your new disease free DT. So it really takes at least two tanks to support your disease free DT while you are adding livestock.

Update: So far, so good. No losses. Fish are looking better. I don't see any white spots that I can see clearly. Haven't gotten too close yet (trying to minimize stress) but fish are swimming around QT just fine.

Did a small water change today, Ammonia batch hinted towards green, and didn't want to risk it. I had dumped in a bottle of Dr. Tim's on day 1 and used water from DT, but its 9 fish, so semi-heavy for this size tank, I think. Bought another bottle of bacteria in a bottle, and currently soaking a sponge in it to throw in (probably in the morning). But, good news is no losses anywhere. DT is chugging along as if nothing happened, and QT is making it :)

Thanks again, for all of your quick responses and thorough helped. Saved some fishy lives!

Great news! Glad to hear everything is going well.

Most everything is still doing great. However, Kole Tang is looking very rough. Noticed this morning, and it got progressively worse by now. Been in copper this entire time (since May 27) at therapeutic levels (tested with Hanna). She isn't looking good at all :( Thoughts?

Honestly, I’m not sure it is still velvet? I don’t see any white on it, and if I read correctly, velvet is usually off of the fish in 4 days max (usually?). So any velvet that was on the fish on may 27 should be off and dead in water column of QT?

It's appears your kole has developed a secondary bacterial infection from the velvet entry wounds.

Do you keep antibiotics on hand? Of so what type?

Do you have a second QT?

I don't have a secondary QT. It was late last night when I posted, and to be safe I went ahead and dosed some antibiotics, since it didn't look like velvet and my next thought was infection. This morning, it is swimming a little better, and already looks a little healthier. All I had was Kanaflex, so I will get some Furan-2 and Metroplex. Probably go ahed and dose that today too, just to get the trifecta.

Alright. All 3 (Kanaflex, metroplex, and furan-2). Let us see how they do with this. Kole is already looking better even from this morning, too.
