I hear you. I have 6 enormous King Trochus snails that keep my back wall perfect! But when it comes to the sandbed it’s Neil!

Not at all. Five or so years ago I had a Sandsifting goby who seriously made a mess of my tank. It took 3 days to catch him.

You should get a Quoy's parrotfish if you want to see sand ejection!

As I have 2 tanks I cant decide on just one. So, my best CU fish for my 4’ tank is by far my Halichoeres iridis or Radiant Wrasse. And he has some beautiful colours that everyone’s attracted to… Poor Genicanthus melanospilos ends up in the corner looking like he’s sulking.
First photo is from March, the second 2 photos are from 5 days ago.

My best CU Fish for my Nano (Red Sea Max) is by far my blenny… I’m kidding, that things more of a tank wrecker than anything (Took a nice chunk out of one of my staghorns, and then began to stress the second pink streak). My best CU Fish in the nano is my Pseudocheilinops ataenia or Pink Streak Wrasse.
These photos are all new as she only went in on Monday (Some photos are from Monday - The top two - then yesterday’s photo was the bottom one).

My experience with diamond goby’s was never pleasant. First time I had it in a tank with a FULL glass cover except for one tiny hole that barely fits your finger just to be able to slide the glass, it somehow managed to jump through that hole. The second time I added one it would stir up the sand so bad that the tank would go cloudy for two days, had to be removed.
Now for the question; my blue tuxedo urchin for defeating red turf algae.

Sounds like you didn’t have enough sand sleepers stirring the sand all the time and cleaning it.

Diamond gobies are amazing fish. So much fun to watch and they do an amazing job. I’ve added possibly 10 to a display tank in our shop and within weeks they disappear. I had one in there when the tank was at home who lived for years but now they disappear. Bit weird.

Sounds like you didn’t have enough sand sleepers stirring the sand all the time and cleaning it.

I did have many snails but the sand I was using was very fine that it would get easily stirred up.

They need a deep sand bed and a ton of pods to thrive long term. If they don’t have enough pods they just wither and die.

3 inch sand bed in a 7x2x2 tank established for 7 years. Tank is crawling with life and plenty to sustain them. I wonder if there is something eating them that is a little more sinister. Nearly all Pukani live rock.
