I have a pair of dispar anthias. One of them (the bigger of the two) every now and then would swim up to the water surface and then down again to make a vertical circle around the other anthia - see link to the YouTube video. I first noticed this not long after I introduced them into the tank (4 foot tank). At first this only happened at feeding times, but lately it happens almost all of the time. Can some one please explain this behaviour? Is this some sort of a mating distance or is it a bullying act? What do I need to do?
Also, I think because of this "dance", the bigger anthia has hurt itself - it has popeye on the left eye. From my research, because it is only on one eye it is not some sort of infection. I can't take a picture of the fish because it is hiding in the cave all the time after I noticed it has the popeye, but the link to the a previous pot show very similar conditions. In the same morning when I first noticed it has the popeye, it was still swimming around a little bit but mostly hide under a cover in a semi open area and it was still feeding. The same afternoon it began to hide in the cave. When feeding time comes, it wants to come out and it then quickly swam back into the cave again. My research also tells me to dose the entire tank with epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) to help with reducing the swollen eye. Today is the second day. I am beginning to concern it may die from starvation. Can someone please advise what I should do? Should I take out the fish into a hospital tank (which I am not sure if I can catch him I don't want to stress the anthia as well as other fish). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
