anthias and prazi-pro

Will anthias be ok with prazi-pro? I got a shipment of 4 anthias today from live aquaria and one was doa and now the male is dying after only being in my qt tank for several hours. The others are doing fine. Just wondering if the prazi-pro caused the death or just stress of everything?

It’s not the Prazi. Anthias are not good shippers and have been coming in bad shape from wholesalers (including LA) for several years. I’ve received several shipments over the past few years where all died within a few days. Finally got two bimacs through QT earlier this year.

Do they have any marks or blotchiness on the body?

No bad markings to speak of. Are males bad to order anyways? Seems I've read where males don't seem to last long in captivity.
Do you qt with prazi or copper or just watch them for a month?

I’ve read the small females ship best, but still not great.

They can be poor shippers, and any meds, including pretty gentle ones like prazi can add stress. It is a good idea to give them a couple of days to settle before introducing meds.

one of the biggest problems with anthias is cyanide poisoning. I purchased 13 and had 7 die.. I got one tested at my friends lab... cyanide. Bought 6 more from a different supplier... 3 died... cyanide again, my buddy said his liver was "gross looking"

But back to the question... I have used prazi and copper to treat my anthias succeafully.

The are often caught with cyanide because they are VERY difficult to catch, they immediately dash into rocks. I had to go fallow on my tank, got 19 fish out, it took me 7 days!! to get the last three anthias out, they all hung around the last rock I had in there. I literally had to hold the rock out of the water and tickle them out of there holes with a chop stick.

So should I treat them or just observe them for 3 or 4 weeks?

once they are eating I would definately treat, without question.

I never understood the "observation" route. Unless you have xray vision and can observe their gills and GI tracts. If that is the case then observation will be ideal.
