So I’ve got this anthias for awhile now and I just recently got a pair of clowns and the anthias just won’t leave the clowns alone

A few things you can try are rearranging your rockwork, taping a mirror to the glass, or (and this one works the best for me) give the bully a 5 day timeout in the sump or a qt tank

Got a male lyretail, he is an absolute idiot, i was worried initially after past exp with clowns that my pair of frosties may be an issue and i was really hesitant to add them.
So everyone says oh Anthias are lovely, well mine are not, the male lyre bullies everything including the large female frosty clown, in turn the two smaller females lyretails cant seem to help themselves but throw their weight around as well.
I dont need or want that for the other occupants, so regardless of colour, these supposedly, caring ( read that somewhere) social fish have a one way trip and am not inclined to ever restock them

Yeah I don’t get the anthias at all. Very cool fish with vibrant colors but he gets mean lol. I’m going to rework the the rock around today. It’s weird he will literally stay around the clowns all night but then sometimes he starts getting aggressive fins all flared out almost biting the clowns. But he definitely stays with them especially when the lights are out

@Raysup88
i hope the re working of the scape works for you and brings balance back to the community, its no fun dealing with tank mates that need some time out, kind of irritates me to see particular fish being overly domineering. I have witnessed my male lyretail flaring, nipping and chasing, lol he sleeps by himself in the rocks, even the females want nothing to do with him, so instead of ridding him and having one of the females then turn dominant male, just going to re assess and find hopefully captive bred something else colourful to replace them.

Good luck with yours though, really hope it works out, grrr i feel like dumping mine in the overflow sometimes.

After rearranging the rocks give it some time. Anthias are not an aggressive fish and once he gets used to the newcomers he should be fine.

What size is your tank? Anthias tend to do better with a male and a couple of females.

I just moved the rocks around and actually really like it lol I also just got a yellow tang so hopefully that helps

+1 on the mirror

How often are you feeding them? They are very active fish, and if they aren’t getting 4-5 small meals a day they will get aggressive. The mirror will also defiantly help too, but the feeding I suspect will be the winner in the long run.

I have misus cubes i give one full one per day and a few small veggie pellets. Should I be feeding more?

Anthias would benefit from multiple small feedings per day. If you’re able I would increase the frequency, but be careful not to over feed. You will have to do some trial and error to see what that is for your tank.

I feed flakes 4 times a day with an auto feeder, but it’s not very much food. I also feed a cube of something every night. I have a good amount of fish, so I’m able to feed a good amount without it being a problem. The small flake feedings seem to keep the Anthias much happier, and less aggressive towards each other.
