I have 3 bimac anthias and a sunburst anthias in QT. I've had them for about a month and they just finished 14 days of therapeutic copper (verified at >1.75 via Hanna). I just transferred them into a clean QT with no copper. Just the past day or so, one of the bimacs went into hiding. Then just now, he went into this death spiral. He did seem a little bit bloated and he had this black thing in his anal area. Should I be concerned that he had something that can be transmitted to the other fish in the QT? What is the best course of action for the fish remaining in the QT? I just started Prazi and was going to observe them for 2 weeks prior to introduction to the DT. The other fish seem fine, but am worried now.

Sorry for your loss. Bimacs are my favorite anthias. Kinda hard to say what happened. Did you notice anything on the fish externally? Red sores/marks?

No other external marks other than the bloating and black thing.

He's very "floaty" in the video, which has me wondering about his swim bladder.

I think the most likely disease-related cause for the black vent might be a bacterial infection, but would defer to @Humblefish.

Could be an infection of some sort or even a rectal prolapse. I wouldn't automatically assume it was caused by something transmissible, but I would extend observation time for the rest of the fish because of it.

Thanks Humblefish. I will extend the observation period.

I had something similar happen to 1/8 resplendent anthias during QT. I think it literally ate itself to death. I fed some Hikari jumbo mysis, which are insanely large and have shells. I should have chopped them up. Anyways, shortly after, one looked constipated, since you can see through their bodies with enough light. He never made it. A sad gluttonous way to go.
