I purchased this red bar anthias as a group fish purchase from a reefer leaving the hobby. Spread the fish out in a couple of quarantine tanks and he was always hiding even when I added him to the dd.
Well for about a month now he has been getting increasingly aggressive with all the fish in the tank. He killed a black molly almost immediately before I could get him into a breeder box.
A couple of days ago I released a yellow tang and filefish into the dd after being in an acclimation box.
As I expected the purple tang gave the yellow some abuse but has seemed to have backed off quite a bit every day that goes by. On the other hand the anthias has picked up where the purple has left off.
I caught him today several times nipping on the yellow tang who for some reason does not run from this guy but stands his ground. Well tonight I noticed the yellows' top fin is all jagged from being nipped at.
I also caught the anthias hanging right next to the cleaner shrimp and I don't think it was to get cleaned but eyeing him up for a kill.
Yes I know I have done things backwards with adding the larger, more aggressive fish first but couldn't pass up on the deal I got from this reefer.
There are a number of smaller fish such as wrasse and chromis I still want to add but I am worried that this anthias will kill them. And I am worried this poor yellow tang will die from the stress or an infection from all the nipping.
Biggest issue is catching this anthias, he is super fast and if I do anything in the tank he hides for days in the rockwork.
I am thinking the bottle trap might work best because I can leave it in the sand by his cave. Any other suggestions to catch him that is similar I can build that is kind of a one way in only trap.
