So I thought I had two carberryi anthias with my lyretails in quarantine. Realized later I got a male Evansi and a female carberryi?

Hmm maybe. Carberryi can vary in color and sometimes look very similar to Evansi, though.

I would gander that you got a carberryi based on head/body shape, but telling them apart can be difficult. Following along to see what others think.

Based on those photos I think you are right.

So would this be a female carberryi then?

Yeah I think the first LA pic you posted is a female, and in the second pic from LA you posted the top fish is a male and bottom is a female. But the males can also look like the fish in your tank and the one on QM.

Yes I think so too. Definitely not a lyretail, if those are the only 2 options of what it could be :)
Thanks yeah haha I believe so. We ordered them for our club meeting and I happened to win them. They were marked as carberryi but I was having second thoughts. They are eating and in copper power currently. I'm hoping they make it through QT. They are a bit shy compared to the lyretails so hoping they don't go missing once I add them to my display.

Gocha. I've never kept carberryi (or evansi lol), but most anthias can handle chelated copper fine IME. And lyretails are bulletproof....for an anthias lol.

Best wishes!

Definitely on the evansii; cannot really tell on the other.

How do you differentiate the two? The QM links above make them look really similar... but what throws me off are the other photos of what seem to be male carberryi that don't look anything like the Evansi.

I'll try to get a better pic of the other one.

I did not click on the QM links you provided before. Just did and their photo of carberyii looks nothing like the ones I have kept - their pic looks more like a tuka. LA picture is much better.
