I spotted ich on one of my new anthias a few day ago (added to DT second day as was markedly distracted in a small QT) but it was fine and eating. so i set a 10 G QT and moved both 2 anthias and 2 clown's to the QT and obserced for a day to make sure they are happy and eating rhen i added first dose of cupramine.
For the first few hours all seemed ok apart from anthias not so active, 12 hours later i return from work and both anthias were in a really bad condition i checked ammonia badge and was ok
So i did immediate 75% WC and added a carbon filter to remove copper, unfortunately one died and the other is a little better. Both clowns are fine and eating
Now as it seems copper was to toxic for the fish, so do i wait for a few days and try another course starting with a lower dose or i go for hyposalinity that I'm not sure i can control as needed

Did you ramp up the copper slowly over several days? (I like CopperSafe— but you need a Hanna Copper Checker, as the solution strength seems to vary bottle-to-bottle, so while CopperSafe is generally considered ‘gentle,’ you can overdose if you simply go by the dosing instructions without testing.) Best wishes!

Hi
I dosed as per instructions and didn't check the level as things went wrong in less than 24 h
I think I'll try with a more slow increase over 4 to 6 days[emoji20]

Sounds good. And of course if you are shooting for a certain number of days— such as 15 days in copper and then into a separate QT tank for additional observation, or a straight 30 days in copper— don’t start “counting” days until your copper reaches therapeutic levels. Any water additions/changes need to be with water pre-dosed to therapeutic levels. (Maybe you already knew all that.) ;Smug

Good plan for a mild case of Ich or when treating prophylactically. But if you encounter something more aggressive like Velvet, you have to ramp up within 24-48 hours to save the fish. In those cases, try to spread out doses throughout the day: AM, lunch, PM, etc. Smaller more frequent rather than just one big daily dose works really well. Sorry for your losses. And welcome to R2R!

Thanks for all the support but now as i lost the second anthias I'm wondering if a mild cases of ich needs eradication or we try and cope with it by proper nutrition and maybe uv sterilizer
And we treat only more advanced cases where the fish shows signs of illness

Did your QT have any ammonia? Just doesn't seem right to loose 2 fish that quick. I have a mandarin in cuppramine right now,and doing fine.

That's a tough call. But consider how your fish could become a "Typhoid Mary" and infect any new fish you add to the tank. Sorry again for your loss.

Not related to ammonia
I have seachem ammonia badge that is in the sage range and both clowns are happy and eating
