does anybody have a list of what species are best kept in the home aquaria Vs. the ones that are best to be kept in the wild?

pictures or helpful links for a good read about these guys is appreciated...

i have tried with no success over time (slowly wither away, despite multiple daily feedings):

evansii
dispar
purple queen
bimaculatus
lori's

i have had great success with:

lyretail
bartlett
bourbanaise

lyretail and bartlett and purple queens ive had luck with, but lyretail and barts are the easyier of them all IMEO

I have had my bartlets so long I havn't havn't had any others..
I have seen squarebacks and lyretails kept successfully also....
As far as I can tell these 3 are most common in the hobby as well.

i have kept sunburst/fathead anthias successfully and it was probably one of my favorite fish.

I had 4 carberri anthias. 2 of them jumped but the other 2 are nice and fat. Been about 5 months and eat everything. Only feed my tank once a day usually sometimes 2x.

All anthias should be properly QT'd when brought in to ween them onto prepared foods before throwing in with already aggressive tankmates that readily feed on prepared foods. If not you will decrease their chance of survival ten fold. Be prepared to feed small amounts often, as they have fast metabolisms and small bellies, BUT if you can care for them, they're my favorite type of fish next to angels

Serranocirrhitus latus

IMHO the best anthias to keep in aquaria are Pseudanthias cheirospilos and Pseudanthias squamipinnis (Lyretail anthias). There are other Species of Lyretails as well but these are the most common.

A couple Species to stay away from less those already mentioned: Pseudanthias ventralis, Pseudanthias ventralis hawaiiensis

Those are many of the commonly seen species that I can think of off the top of my head. Obviously, the experience level of the aquarist makes these categories less than absolute. But, generally speaking, it's about right, IMO.

i have a few bartletts and a fathead and a pair of blotched anthias. I've had all for about 8 months, so it's not quite long term, but they seem to be super healthy and easy to keep. I feed about 3 times a day though.

I have 7 Lyretail about 3 years, easy to keep.

I would recommend the diadem or sunset anthias. They are nice, relatively inexpensive, and seem really hardy for me.

Ive had allot of trouble trying to keep square backs, to the point I wont try another. Ive kept a barbonas for about a year then when I took the tank down I sold him.

I kept a disbar for over a year then added him to my school of carberryi which I had for about 8 months. They all did great and I would still have them, but I took down my 150 gallon. Now they are all living happily in a friend's 180. I haven't tried any other kinds of anthias.

These came from Cebu but they can be found all the way down to Japan. Pseudanthias Flavoguttatus. They are truly spectacular.
