I set up a (used) 6gallon for my new Biota mandarin until he gets bigger about 3 weeks ago. So it's not really dirty. But took advantage of Blk Friday to get a Nuvo 10 gal. Everything in the 6 g will go into the 10, rocks (that came from my 30g originally) plus some new sand along with what's in the 6g. Do you think I will have an ammonia spike? Any other advice-since the 6 has to come down because that is where the 10 has to go.
Thanks!

Hey,

sorry I am late. Congrats on the upgrade. If you have not done it already, you will be fine. Initially you are only changing water volume, nothing else. If you start adding anything, then go slow.

Post some pics or do a build thread so we can see

+1, I wouldn't worry about ammonia, you should be good to go!

Well. I did have an ammonia spike-all good now. Except for the uglies (diatoms).

Looking good. What do you suppose caused the ammonia spike? Did you add something? Or lose some of your bacteria somehow? Did you by chance add live sand?

I did add some live sand but also used all the sand that was in the 6g. Used Bio Spira.

Ah gotcha. Live sand that sits in a bag on a shelf at the lfs for who knows how long is actually full of dead stuff (and ammonia). That's great for cycling a new tank but not so great for adding to a running tank.
